[Q&A] U/B Control

This archetype has top 8'd the last Pro Tour, and was the best performing deck of that tournament. It also got first place in the hands of Adrian Sullivan at a recently Grand Prix Super Sunday Series, so I figured it qualified as not developing. Here's his list: [deck]BU Chevy Control - Sullivan 2 D...

:aww: This is a control deck. It rarely matters if your bomb is a 5/5 or a 6/6, which is what the fountains would do on average. I think you just need to survive against boss Sligh, and land drops that gain you life might facilitate this. This deck is really good against Boss Sligh. If this became p...

The most dominant deck in the previous format ran 18 or so XBB spells and 4 BBB spells with 4 colorless sources. Works just fine and will help against Jeskai and the aggro decks of the world. This is a very important aspect of the deck and I'll detail my take on it here. Old MBD had Mutavault to he...

Thanks for the report. Good job. I've looked to see if I thought MonoBlack could work. Good to see some people are having success with it. Do you think Nykthos would have helped? That honestly is the question that I have received most, and my answer is no. I mean, feel free to test it, though. Howe...

Are we complaining about standard already? It's been a month, and one can play a ton of decks and do well.

Report

Round 1 vs Mardu Warriors Aggro: 2-1 This deck is a variant of Rabble Red that takes advantage of splashing black and white for other warrior creatures. It gets a better sideboard and sometimes Sorin for some reach. First game, my opponent mulliganed to 5 and still whooped me. I took a hand with so...

Yes. :symb: I know what you're thinking(, or at least have a good idea). "That again?" :sherlock: It's similar reaction to that of my opponents when they say things like "I can't believe devotion is still here". I don't blame them. I'm still surprised myself that it works well. I...

1st place at FNM 7/19/2014

Got 1st for the 3rd week in a row. This week was the M15 release, so I expected heavy aggro, and came prepared with a weenie-hate sideboard. I think the results speak for themselves. BTW

I didn't play Black aggro this week, like I said I would. I'm sorry, but as a metagame call, it was not a good idea. Yeah, Master of the Feast is pretty bad against Black Devotion. Good sideboard cards are Thoughtseize, Duress, Dark Betrayal, Nighthowler, or Erebos. The matchup is good, as long as they don't splash green or expect you. If they run Pharika's Cure, Drown in Sorrow, or Golgari Charm, they can make yo...

RE: Splashing

Blue and Red just aren't worth it unless you have a metagame of almost all U/W-based control decks. White is good against Mono Black dominated metagames. I find green good against everything except for maybe a Monsters/Mono Blue dominated metagame. But I don't think either metagame conditions exist ...

Why do people not like Pack Rat in MBA? Pack Rat turns useful cards into aggression. It takes 3 mana a turn and 1 card. After done enough times, the ensuing rat tokens become profitable and far more valuable than any 3 mana for 1 card creature spell. However, we are already playing all aggressive c...

(Erebos is bugging me with Deicide out) I only run 2, so having it in a post-Deicide world is no biggie. It just means that an Underworld Connections gets to live. not a fan of more than two marauder. This too. Mogis's Marauder as a 2/2 haste provides too little tempo for 3 mana. At that point in the game, we want to win; which is possible with its ETB ability. Because of that, we definitely only want to see one per game. Compared to our other 3 drops( a 3/3 ...

Keen observation, lol. That could certainly be right that we just have too many powerful cards. Master will be better in a monster/aggro metagame. He's fairly weak against UWx and MBD, so I'd be wary to play him ATM. But, we shall see what JOU can bring.

Brain Maggot is good in the U/W matchup.....that's all I got. He's a good 2 drop, which our archetype is still shaky on, but I don't think he's aggressive enough for us.
