Primer: Mardu Midrange
I think seeker is pretty marginal against the field. WIth so many midrange matchups coming to top decks and a decent creature count, it's just super marginal/underpowered. Rabblemaster still fills a role game 1 but only because there are not any other threats in these colors under 4CMC that the oppo...

While I really do think Flamewake Phoenix is a big boost to Mardu, Sam is trying way too hard to 'maximize value' out of a few cards there instead of just playing the most powerful threats and answers on curve. He's stuck to that philosophy so well with his WR deck the last few weeks that my guess i...

I tried Dicate but it was often too cute. I always just want another Dragon or Elspeth to jam in that slot. Dictate looks pretty bad when you play it on an empty board getting smashed by Rhinos. Costing 4 is a big problem for Bitter Revelation. In matches were RtB comes in, Rabblemaster or Anger is ...

I didn't mean to derail the conversation here, but LD is likely correct in that the Mardu list is pretty fixed and a *very* solid contender for best deck in the format. I personally think Wingmate Roc is solid in the list but honestly any of our 5 drops are pretty interchangeable. Brad's 4-color 'go...

Why does looking at a decklist with 4 colors and seige rhino bring up such feelings of disgust? The mana is super clunky and it just looks awful. All those double mana symbols. There is such a thing as too greedy. The only double mana is Courser and 5/6 drops. The deck has 29 mana sources and 2 way...

Even with my love for SBD, I'm moving into the Wingmate camp after going 4-0 last night and only dropping a single game all evening. The Roc was just very resilient and stable all night and made me a lot less worried about heros downfall or Elspeth. Here's my current list for reference, leaning towa...

Dolt- have you played with Wingmate Roc much in this list? Currently testing him over SBD as it plays nicer with Elspeth. Trying to put my personal preferences aside (smashing dragons at peoples face) for an optimal config focusing on my post-board games. My game 2/3 win% feels like it can be improv...

I am having great success with my main deck, but struggling with my post-board plans against Top-end Abzan and certain Jeskai configurations. I had a post-board plan of more control/answers, but honestly you're not as good as Abzan nor Jeskai at playing the control role. It felt like setting myself ...

I'm playing his list, -2 Magma Jet, +1 Sorin, +1 Seeker. See if I can live without Stormbreath. I've won so many games on the back of that card that it's hard to imagine, but I acknowledge that Brad is a better magician than me. It's funny that his arguments for Sarkan were exactly what LPs were. L...

3-0 at the LGS last night beating 2 Abzan and a 4x Dig Jeskai list. The deck was quite solid. Mana base was perfect. I've made a few slight tweaks trading a Seeker for another Thoughtseize and moving away from End Hostilities in the side. I think the decision you need to make putting together the to...

GP LA Tourney Report Overall I had a great experience at GP LA. I picked up my third loss in the 8th round and my 9th round was a no-show so I ended the day 6-3. Highlight of the day was being paired up against Patrick Chapin in Round 4. I was also seated next to Valentin Mackl that round with whom...

I tend to agree with Lightning_Dolt. Mardu's strengths are at the end of the midrange spectrum and you need to bridge the gap with 2cmc removal/burn and Thoughtseize. I've tried lots of variants and the only way I've been able to win consistently is bashing people in the face with Rabblemaster/Butch...

Brimaz has been quite strong at overloading Stoke the Flames as removal out of Jeskai, hes an MVP in that matchup and they're usually forced to Charm him to the top of my library. He also works so well as a sidebord plan with Anger of the Gods. This deck really wants to be attacking in the air and B...

Mardu Charm is a solid roleplayer if your goal is to play the 'control' role (especially game 1) against the majority of the field. Decks like Raph Levy's Mardu Control from the PT play the full 4 for this reason. On the other spectrum, if you're trying to get them from 20>0 with Rabblemaster, Butch...

Here is the list I am going to test this week. I am still pretty bullish on Rabblemaster so I only have room for a singleton Brimaz, but he should definitely provide value when drawn. My original concept for this deck was more Boros agro running Seeker of the Way , Monastery Swiftspear and Goblin Rabblemaster to leverage cards like [card]Titan's Strength[/card] or Gods Willing to push through damage and lifegain. While the deck was quick, it was terrible in top deck mode and had ...
